Websites to support the development of mentoring in MFL

The Mendeval Project has very good self training materials on mentoring MFL student teachers. It can be used with other colleagues as staff development, or for self-instruction. Go to http://www4.open.ac.uk/Mendeval/. Once on the site open the sidebar Menu for PRODUCTS and you can then explore what are called 'Modiles of Interactive learning' and read the articles.

Guidance for Mentors: supporting trainees in London schools.

The London partnership booklet was the outcome of a TDA-funded project which brought together clusters of training schools and HEIs to consider key themes. Feedback was collated by CILT and edited by Ann Swarbrick, leader of the project. The issues discussed include supporting weak trainees, support for behaviour management, mentor expectations of planning, supporting target language use and supporting EAL pupils.

The Rough Guide to Mentoring

A source of a very full MFL Mentoring Handbook which takes you through the stages in detail is available on http://www.menttime.tsn.at/.

Once on this site, open the sidebar menu for DOWNLOADS OF OUTCOMES and you can read the very full Mentoring Handbook or download it chapter by chapter. It is best to flip past the top few files in German and go straight to the following link

The Rough Guide to Mentoring has been contributed by Anna Bartrum of St Martin's College. It is the outcome of a European project examining good practice in mentor training for MFL in ITE across 8 countries. It has been necessary to edit the resource, but the appendices which focus on exemplification of schemes of work, lesson planning and assessment are available from Anna Bartrum, who can be contacted at a.bartrum@ucsm.ac.uk. We are grateful to Anna for facilitating the sharing of this material.
